Roblox is introducing age-based accounts and parental controls.

Roblox is introducing new age-based account categories and expanded parental control options for users under 16 years old.

Roblox is introducing new age-based account categories. For users aged 5 to 8, there will be Roblox Kids. Within Roblox Kids, features are limited: children can only play games rated Minimal or Mild. They also cannot chat with other players due to privacy concerns and their young age. Parents have full control over the account and can see at any time which games their child is playing.

For children aged 9 to 15, there will be Roblox Select. They will have access to content rated Minimal, Mild, and Moderate. Chatting is allowed if permitted in their country, and additional safety safeguards will be active in chats. Parents will still be able to manage and monitor everything.

For users aged 16 and older, the standard version of Roblox will remain available. Very little will change for them, and they can continue using the platform as before.

Changes for Creators

There will also be changes for creators. Publishing games will still be possible, but new requirements will apply.

If you only want to publish a game for yourself, your account must be in good standing.

If you want to publish a game for 16+ users, your account must meet the following requirements:

  • Your account is in good standing
  • You have completed the Age Check

If you want to publish a game for all ages (All Ages), additional requirements apply:

  • Your account is in good standing
  • You have completed the Age Check
  • You have completed full age verification
  • You have a Roblox Plus subscription

This subscription costs $4.99 per month (approximately €5).

Many creators consider this a disadvantage. As a result, some are choosing to make their games available only for users aged 16+, because they feel it is unreasonable to pay a monthly fee to make their game accessible to all age groups.

Expanded Parental Controls

Roblox is also introducing new parental control features, giving parents more control over their child’s account.

New features for parents:

  • Parents can block games at any time
  • Parents can view, manage, and disable chats if necessary
  • Parents can approve games when their child requests permission to access them
